Dennis M. Lanfear Founder and President
Mr. Lanfear, InteKrin’s Founder and President, became Chairman of the Board in 2010. Under Mr. Lanfear’s five year leadership as President and CEO, the company was taken from inception through a successful End-Of-Phase-2 meeting with the FDA and into Phase 3 with a major therapeutic area lead product of high market potential.
Denny is a thirteen year veteran of Amgen, Inc. where he was a Corporate Officer and Vice-President with broad operational, product development and marketing responsibility. His tenure began in 1986 as a founding member of the Process Development Department. Under his ten-year leadership this group became the preeminent PD organization in BioPharma and a key strategic advantage for the company, as it remains today. As Vice President Process Development and Operations Systems, he directed the business process integration of over twenty-five hundred Operations and Quality staff world-wide.
While at Amgen he also had senior leadership roles in several product development programs including those for growth factors, somatotrophins and neurotrophins, directing efforts from preclinical to Phase III. He reviewed and wrote sections of more that 20 INDs and several BLAs. He managed several corporate partner relationships including that with SKB from 1986 to 1990. He also managed and had direct budgetary responsibility for the $135M development partnership with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals from 1991 to 1999. In 1997 he was named Vice President, Market Development, where he defined long term competitive and reimbursement strategies for Epogen®, a multibillion dollar drug.
Prior to joining Amgen, Denny held positions of increasing responsibility at Baxter International. Denny was also the founder and former CEO of Saronyx, Inc., a drug development software services company. He is also an active life science investor through his firm Lanfear Capital Advisers, which invests in pharmaceutical and medical device companies. He is an investor and former Director of Anthera Pharmaceuticals. He is a Director of Insmed Therapeutics. Lanfear Capital is also Limited Partner in select venture funds.
Denny earned degrees in Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University and earned his MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA.
Steve Glover Chief Business Officer
Mr. Glover brings nearly 29 years of business experience in bio-pharmaceuticals and life sciences to his position as Chief Business Officer for InteKrin Therapeutics Inc. Prior to joining InteKrin, he held the position of President of Insmed Therapeutic Proteins as well as Chief Business Officer of Insmed Incorporated. At Insmed Mr. Glover was responsible for both the $130 million transaction with Merck to acquire Insmed’s biosimilars business and the subsequent $110 million business combination with Transave, Inc.
Prior to Insmed, Mr. Glover held the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager at Andrx Laboratories and Andrx Therapeutics, both divisions of Andrx Corporation. At Andrx Mr. Glover was responsible for the strategy and operation of the branded business unit as well as the sale of Andrx Corporation to Watson pharmaceuticals for $1.9 billion. He earlier held multiple sales, marketing and operational roles at Hoffman LaRoche, Amgen Inc. and IMS Health.
Mr. Glover has multifaceted experience in Fortune 100, start up and entrepreneurial environments. He has demonstrated results in turnarounds and growing the top line, with a focus on sales and marketing, product development and business optimization. His transaction experience covers over 25 transactions totaling over $10 billion. His strategic and operational experience, which covers most therapeutic classes of biopharmaceuticals, includes strategic planning, corporate development, operations management, product development, product marketing and sales management.
Mr. Glover received his B.S. in Marketing from Illinois State University in 1982.
David Weinstein, MD. PhD Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Weinstein joined InteKrin in mid 2011 after serving ten years as the Founder Chief Scientific Officer of GliaMed, Inc. A long practicing neuroscientist, Dr. Weinstein resigned his full time academic position as a Professor in the Departments of Neuroscience, Neurology, Pathology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, to lead GliaMed’s drug discovery and development efforts. Dr. Weinstein is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of neurology, Multiple Sclerosis, brain tumor research, and spinal cord and nerve injury and regeneration. Dr. Weinstein has served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization. Dr. Weinstein is an external advisor and consultant for numerous scientific research organizations, including the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Christopher Reeves Paralysis Foundation, the Paralyzed Veterans of America/Spinal Cord Research Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. He is currently a permanent member of an NIH Study Section for the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke, and is an Adjunct Professor at his alma mater, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, as well as New York Medical College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In addition to his other degrees, he also holds an MS in Pharmacology from New York University College of Medicine. Dr. Weinstein has been a consultant to numerous venture capital firms, and is the inventor on several patents in the areas of tissue regeneration, neurology, neuropathology and viral diagnostics.
Fredrick L. Dunn, M.D. Chief Medical Officer
Fredrick L. Dunn, M.D. was the Head of Clinical Research for Metabolism and Endocrinology at Tularik, Inc, where he led the successful phase 2a “proof of concept” study for T-131 (now INT-131). At Tularik, he was responsible for the clinical development of a number of metabolic compounds in diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia. Dr. Dunn has over 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including positions at Novartis Pharmaceuticals as Global Head, Diabetes Clinical Research, and at Merck & Co as Executive Director, Academic and Professional Affairs. Prior to joining industry, Dr. Dunn served on the faculties of the Joslin Diabetes Center (Boston), Harvard Medical School and Duke University Medical Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. After the acquisition of Tularik by Amgen, Inc, Dr. Dunn returned to an academic position where he is currently Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
Kathleen M. Lee, Ph.D., MBA Vice President, Pharmaceutics
Kathleen M. Lee, Ph.D., MBA, is Vice President, Pharmaceutics at InteKrin. Dr. Lee joined InteKrin in 2007 with over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She was most recently at Scios, Inc., where her last position was Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Development with responsibility for the formulation development and manufacture of dosage forms from preclinical through commercialization. She previously held positions at Syntex, Roche and Oread with diverse CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls) responsibilities of analytical chemistry, formulation development, drug delivery, project management and outsourcing management. She has led CMC teams for small and large molecules.
Dr. Lee holds a B.S. in Chemistry with Honors and an MBA in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.S. in Mathematics and M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Michael A. Nazak Senior Director, Finance and Accounting
Mr. Nazak joined InteKrin Therapeutics in 2008 as Director of Finance and Accounting. He has over 20 years of experience in the area of finance and accounting operations in both public and private companies. Most recently Mike was the Corporate Controller at Reliant Technologies, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of medical laser devices. Prior to Reliant, Mike served as the Sr. Director of Finance and Corporate Controller for Connetics Corporation, a public company that develops topical and oral drugs used in the treatment of various skin diseases. He also held Corporate Controller and other finance and accounting positions at Cygnus Solutions (a Red Hat company), Rachem Corporation and Mips Computer Systems and was an auditor with Coopers and Lybrand LLP.
